Credit Card Payments

We accept Mastercard and Visa credit card payments as well as invoice payments to our bank account for registration and related fees. Generally there are no problems with online credit card payments from within New Zealand. However, there have recently been some issues, particularly from outside of New Zealand.

Our online payment gateway requires that we implement a widely-used technology called 3D Secure. This is an extra layer of protection for online transactions requiring some form of 2-step authentication which can be verified by the card issuer. It may be a security question, or email, text or app code to authorise transactions. If your card is 3D Secure enabled, then 3D security will most likely be enforced by your bank, particularly for overseas payments or higher amounts.

3D Secure is likely to be the main reason you have trouble with credit card payments for conference registrations. We are seeing error codes issued by banks suggesting one of three things may be happening:

  • the user did not complete the transaction after being asked to meet 2-step authentication requirements,
  • the user did not provide the correct information or code to meet the 2-step authentication requirements,
  • the user completed the transaction correctly but the issuing bank subsequently declined the transaction.
If you are registering more than person it may help to spread the registrations over several days.

If you continue to have trouble, we recommend you contact your bank or card-issuer to pre-approve the transaction, or use the invoice option and arrange to pay by direct debit or wire transfer.

We apologise for the inconvenience this is causing and appreciate your patience.
