Post Conference Tour

Preliminary Outline:

There will be a Post-Conference Tour departing on 13 September from Copthorne Hotel Paihia and travelling to Rotorua. On 14 September there will be a visit to the Scion (NZ Forest Research Institute) main campus nestled on the edge of the Whakarewarewa Forest. With more than 70 years of history at the forefront of Forest Research, Scion has had an active role in forest pathology and Phytophthora research dating back to the 1970’s. On this tour you will see the Scion research facilities and nursery, see red needle cast, caused by Phytophthora pluvialis and hear how Scion is working with forestry companies to manage this disease and others.

Tour participants will also have the opportunity to experience Rotorua’s geothermal wonders with visits to bubbling mud pools, a hot pool swim (in geothermal water), and treewalk opportunities.

On 15 September the coach will travel from Rotorua to Auckland with a stop at the Airport and SkyCity downtown bus stop. Tour participants should not book departing flights before 3 pm on 15 September.
