Field Trip

The field trip on 26 March 2026 is included in full registrations with guest tickets being available to purchase during the registration process. Coach transfer and catering is included.

Itinerary 

Coach pick up from venue, Napier War Memorial Events Centre @ 8am.      

Craggy Range's Gimblett Gravels Vineyard. 

  • Presentation by their viticulturist who will talk about Craggy Ranges practical approaches to managing GLRaV-3 and the incidence data they have collected over the last 5+ years. 
  • Nick Hoskins will speak about the Virus Elimination Project 


Bioeconomy Science Institute, Plant & Food Research Group, Havelock North. 

  • Visit the research plot where there are purposely infected grapevines with three genetic strains of a virus on four cultivars
  • Morning tea @ Plant & Food’s Research Centre


Urban Winery and National Distillery Company Ltd.

  • Guided wine tasting of Hawke's Bay wines from Tony or Oscar Bish (winemakers)  
  • Wine tasting
  • Distillery tour 
  • Gin tasting 

Lunch will be available at this stop.

Drop Back to venue approximately 5pm.

What to bring/wear

Footwear: you will be walking in orchards so flat/sturdy footwear is advised. 

Sunhat: please bring a sunhat as you will be outside for most of the day.

Raincoat: the weather is unpredictable so having a raincoat to hand is advisable.

Water bottle: bring a full water bottle with you for the day, an opportunity to refill at morning tea will be available.
